& INTEREST GUIDELINES
For January – December 2021
Thank you for your interest in utilizing your gifts and graces to benefit our church as a prospective member of one of our leadership teams. There are a number of key leadership ministries and teams described on the next page and each has a unique role in helping Wesley fulfill its mission: “To become a community of Christians that connect, educate and equip souls for Christ.” Your prayerful consideration and response are important. Gifted leaders are critical to the health and welfare of the church and church leadership is a significant opportunity for spiritual growth and development.
The Nomination and Lay Leadership Team nominates candidates for leadership in the church to the annual Charge Conference, which usually meets at the beginning of October. We seek persons who live out their vows of membership to “support Wesley with their prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness,” while also representing the diversity of our congregation. The team’s aim is to discern God’s leading with special consideration given to the following leadership criteria:
• Understanding of and commitment to the Mission and Vision of Wesley UMC
• Support of Wesley through active participation (including in worship and financially)
• Ability to attend meetings and willingness to carry out tasks
• Demonstrate by example spiritual maturity and commitment to be a disciple of Jesus Christ
For our administrative teams, we ask for a four-year commitment to ensure fit and continuity of leadership. Each new committee member serves for one year with voice but no vote, learning more about the team and its roles and responsibilities. Then members serve for a three-year term. Terms begin January 1 with an Orientation Day for all leaders usually held on a Saturday in mid-January. Our ministry teams have varying time commitments due to the nature of their work.
Please take time to read and complete this form. Then send your completed form no later than Sunday, September 23, 2020 by clicking the submit button. If you have questions or would like to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to contact me, the Senior Pastor, Dr. Marion Miller at [email protected].
Sincerely,
The Nomination and Lay Leadership Team
